What is International Experience Canada (IEC)?
The International Experience Canada Program offers temporary work permits to young foreign nationals from more than 30 countries, allowing them to legally reside and work in Canada. These permits are typically valid for 12 or 24 months, depending on the applicant's country of citizenship.
Types Of IEC Work Permits Canada
International Experience Canada gives you a work permit under three categories. Candidates aspiring to have great exposure abroad can see whether they come under any one of these IEC polls in Canada and explore more options for their careers.
1. Working Holiday
The Working Holiday category is suitable for individuals who do not have a job offer, intend to work for multiple employers in Canada, are interested in working in various locations, and seek to earn income to support travel activities. Participants in this program are typically granted an open work permit, allowing them to work for nearly any employer in Canada with some exceptions.
2. International Co-op (Internship)
The International Co-op (Internship) category is designed for students registered at a post-secondary institution who have obtained a job offer for a work placement or internship in Canada that is essential for completing their studies. Participants in this category are required to work for the same employer in the same location throughout their stay in Canada.
The work permit issued under this category is employer-specific and the internship offered in Canada must be directly related to the student's field of studies. Additionally, the wages and labor standards must adhere to the labor laws of the province or territory where the work will be performed, with the determination of whether the internship needs to be paid or not being governed by the labor code of the respective province or territory.
3. Young Professionals
The Young Professionals category is suitable for individuals who possess a job offer in Canada that contributes to their professional development and intend to work for the same employer in the same location throughout their stay in Canada. Work under this category needs to be paid and not self-employed.
