䲹Բ岹’s Provincial Nominee Program has currently become the leading way to admit most economic class candidates as permanent residents. 䲹Բ岹’s Provincial Nominee Program has overtaken the federal government’s Express Entry system.
Under the recent immigration plan for 2023-2025, the total admissions through the PNP are set to rise to 105,500 this year and 117,500 by 2025. The purpose of the PNP is to boost the labor force of Canada. This recent boom in PNP admissions results from the federal, territorial, and provincial governments asking for more skilled immigrants to fill the labor gaps in their respective regions.
To attract more skilled immigrants into the different provinces, the federal, provincial, and territorial immigration ministers met last July and decided to create a multi-year immigration plan specific to PNPs. This plan was made to give the two levels of government more ability to plan and generate immigration attractions and settlements across the provinces.
Earlier this month, the immigration ministers of all the provinces and territories met with the federal authorities again to re-endorse the multi-year PNP plan during the bi-annual Forum of Ministers Responsible for Immigration.
Since the meeting on March 10, 2023, provinces have started to unveil their new PNP allocations, beginning with Ontario. Ontario’s immigration minister has made it clear that the province seeks more control over its economic class program.
The first request of Ontario was to have more autonomy over economic immigration in Ontario, and the second was to see the province’s allocation double up to 18,000. This Saturday, the federal government and the Ontario government announced that the province’s wishes were granted.
Ontario will now see its PNP allocations rise to 18,000 by 2025. Other provinces have also announced their future PNP allocations. Here is the list of allocations for different provinces as per the recent plan.
Provinces | Allocations expected to rise by 2025 |
Alberta | 10,849 |
Saskatchewan | 8,500 |
Manitoba | 9,500 |
